EVEN AFTER SEVEN YEARS OF BAN, POPPY HUSK SMUGGLING GOES ON SCRUMPTIOUSLY

The seizure of 300kg poppy husk from a truck in Behak Khas village indicates that there has been no end to smuggling of poppy husk from Rajasthan into Punjab.

Poppy husk licensed sale shops in Rajasthan were closed on March 31, 2016 andheavy seizures have been made since then but smuggling goes on surreptitiously mostly through the Abohar-Sriganganagar and Abohar-Hanumangarh highways.

Khuiyansarwer police recently seized 20-kg poppy husk from a canter (mini truck) and arrested three persons under the NDPS Act. The accused were Ramandeep Singh a former police constable and resident of Seed Farm Colony here, Bunty Singh of Ajit Singh Nagar in Abohar and Jaswinder Kaur of Kattianwali village, they have been operating jointly, investigation indicated.

(SUBHEAD)40 kg of poppy husk was seized from a Duster car (RJ 13 CE 0029) along with Rs 11.88 lakh drug money and an electronic fork near Sadhuwali village. Davinder Bishnoi alias Bittu and Rajpal Bishnoi were held. Davinder’s father Mahabir Bishnoi had been held for smuggling poppy husk five times in the past five years and was recently released on bail. The duo had sold poppy husk in Abohar and Malout.

The police seized about 57-gm smack, drug money worth Rs 7.95 lakh and some jewelry in Jaitsar. 20-year-old Hina and her husband Shaukat Ali (37) were arrested under the NDPS Act. 6-kg poppy husk was seized from Amandeep Singh of Sirsa and 280 intoxicating tablets were seized from Chhinder Singh Soni of Shergarh village here. 850 sedative tablets were seized from Kabul Singh of Abohar.

Two residents of Kamalwala village (Ferozepur), Jaswant Singh and Swaran Singh, were held near the international border by BSF and police with the help of some villagers who saw them roaming on the border road near Khatan village. Reportedly they had come to collect the consignment of heroin that was to be dropped by drones by Pakistani smugglers .
