BISHNOI SABHA WANTS STRINGENT LAWS TO PROTECT ANIMALS

The Bishnoi community has urged the state and central government to enact stringent laws to protect animals and birds in the open wild life sanctuary spread over two dozen villages in Abohar subdivision area.

At a meeting in Bishnoi Mandir the community leaders discussed the situation arising out of a recent killing of a blue bull by hitting a tractor in Gumjal village. Wildlife and Forest Department Range Officer Mangat Ram, Block Officer Kulwant Singh and Range Guard Khushwant Singh informed the meeting that a case has been registered against the culprit and he was held. The officials said people should be alert so that such incidents can be prevented.(SUBHEAD)

Akhil Bhartiya Jeev Raksha Bishnoi Sabha national vice president Ramesh Bishnoi and state president Vijay Pal warned the poachers and those who tortured animals to refrain from nefarious activities as these hurt the feelings of the community which could take all possible steps under the law.

The Yuva Club Gumjal claimed to have saved more than 50 wild animals by rescuing them in the past four years. The Guru Jambheshwar Seva Sangh urged the district administration to remove cobra wires and protect the species from casualties. The meeting also appealed to farmers to immediately stop leaving electricity current in wire fences.
