MOHALI MC UNDER RS. 19.55 CRORES LIABILITY, PAYMENT OF RS. 60 CRORES FROM GMADA AND RS. 13 CRORES FROM POWER DEPARTMENT ARE YET TO BE RELEASED, NO TIMELINE DEFINE, MAYOR APPEALED PUNJAB GOVERNMENT TO SET TIMELINE OF REPAYMENT FROM STAKEHOLDERS TO ENSURE HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT

Face2News/Chandigarh

Mayor Mohali, Amarjeet Singh Sidhu questioned Punjab Government that how the vision of Smart City project can be materialised without special financial grant to the Mohali city, which holds immense potential to become the nation's top metropolis.

He informed that MC Mohali is currently under Rs. 19.55 crores liability. He further informed that payment of Rs. 60 crores from GMADA and Rs. 13 crores from Power Department are yet to be released but the date of payment has not been defined.

The Mayor appealed to the Punjab Government to set a timeline of repayment from Government stakeholders to ensure holistic development of the city. Citing the other state models of digital billing payments between stakeholders, he appealed to the Punjab Government to implement this system with immediate effect in order to avoid late payments.(SUBHEAD)

He stated that Committed liabilities include expenses such as electricity, water, salaries, and pension of employees—expenditures, contractors’ payment and Public Health bills that cannot be ignored. He added that with liabilities on head it is a tightrope walk for Mohali MC to further carry out the development works.

He further stated that special budgetary provision to all MCs can prove to be a game changer in ensuring overall development of Punjab. He said that all MCs of Punjab should be given leverage to explore possibilities of other income sources which are presently limited to Advertisement and Property tax only. He added that Rich Municipal Corporation can help to accelerate the pace of State Development.

MASSIVE WATERLOGGING IN PRIME SECTORS OF MOHALI, EXPOSED THE TALL CLAIMS OF GMADA

Mayor slammed GMADA for zero action on massive water logging issues in the Prime Sector like Phase-1,2,3b2, 5,7,11 & Sec-71, etc. He said the recent incessant rains have exposed the tall claims of GMADA which are heavy on buyers’ pockets and shows like providing facilities to villages.

Sidhu stated that Mohali has witnessed an exponential boom in property rates. Potential buyers in tricity are looking towards Mohali as a preferred destination. Such facilities are disappointing for buyers and that will slow down the pace of development in this area.

He urged the Government of Punjab to issue strict directions to GMADA to resolve this matter on top priority else the residents have decided to seek help from the judiciary.
