National Legal Service Authority member secretary Santosh Snehi, who visited the District Fazilka Legal Service Authority and Matra Chhaya Ashram in Abohar said that the Legal Aid Defense Council, a NALSA-funded project, has been launched to provide free legal aid to poor people facing criminal cases to defend themselves during trial.
The System would prove to be a milestone in providing competent and effective legal aid in criminal cases to the weaker and disadvantaged sections of the state and facilitating their access to justice.
Snehi said that through the LADC, the access to justice will be made more easier by providing competent and effective legal services to the eligible persons from the weaker and deprived sections of the society in criminal cases.(SUBHEAD)
She interacted with District and Sessions Judge Jatinder Kaur, Additional District and Sessions Judges Jagmohan Singh Sanghe, Archana Kamboj and District Legal Services Authority secretary Amandeep Singh.
Snehi inspected the offices of District Legal Services Authority and the Legal Aid Defense Counsel System. Along with this, she discussed many issues with the public prosecutors of the LADC and listened to their problems besides having a meeting with the lawyers of the panel who spoke about their experience associated with free legal services cases.
At Matra Chhaya Ashram here, she spent much time with the children. She spoke about the free legal services provided to the children under NALSA schemes and listened to their problems.
