DESPITE KEJRIWAL’S RALLY IN SRIGANGANAGAR, AAP GETS ONLY 1772 VOTES

In the Rajasthan Assembly elections, Congress and BJP have snatched some seats from each other in the undivided Sriganganagar district, which is known as Punjab of Rajasthan.

Even when the Aam Aadmi Party had organised its first pre-election rally at Sriganganagar and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann had predicted a big win, AAP candidate Dr Harish Raheja got only 1772 votes. About 1250 votes are in NOTA's account.

Among a dozen women candidates of political parties, only Shimla Nayak of Congress could win.

BJP's Jaideep Bihani defeated his nearest rival, independent Karuna Ashok Chandak with a margin of 28991 votes. Ankur Miglani of Congress, who was backed by the Punjabi community, stood third with around 38, 300 votes.(SUBHEAD) 

Gurveer Singh Brar in Sadulshehar defeated his nearest rival Congress rebel Om Bishnoi by about 16 thousand votes.

In the past, BJP’s Radheshyam, after quitting Congress, had won from Sriganganagar in 2008. The saffron party lost in 2013 and 2018. Congress has lost here for the fifth consecutive time.

In the last assembly elections, Congress rebel Raj Kumar Gaur had won from Sriganganagar and Jagdish Chander Jangid of Congress from Sadulshehar.

In Suratgarh, a traditional heart-land of Jat leaders, Congress this time fielded Dungar Ram Gaider of the OBC. He won with the highest margin of votes in the district. Gaidar defeated sitting BJP MLA Rampratap Kasnia by about 50 thousand votes.

In Raisinghnagar constituency, journalist turned politician Sohan Nayak of Congress won by about 14 thousand votes. Nayak defeated BJP MLA Balbir Luthra.

In Anoopgarh, Shimla Nayak of Congress defeated BJP MLA Santosh Bawri by about 38 thousand votes by getting about 1 lakh 3 thousand votes. Former BJP MLA Shimla Bawri got only about 11 thousand votes.

The Srikaranpur assembly election was cancelled due to the death of Congress legislator and candidate Gurmeet Singh Kooner.
