Two persons,Ravi Dass of Bathinda and Ramesh Kumar of Ludhiana, were arrested by the police on National Highway 62 in Rajasthan for smuggling ganja under the guise of religious activities.
The accusedhad converted the three-wheeler into a “chariot” to skip checking. Police have recovered 390kg of ganja from the vehicle. The value of the drug seized by the police is estimated to be around Rs 60 lakh.
(SUBHEAD)SI Balwant Ram said that during checking, a three- wheeler was stopped due to suspicion. The same had been converted into a “chariot”. Pictures of Gods and Goddesses were placed on it. Flower garlands were hung inside the vehicle. 13 bags of ganja were found in search. A case was registered under the NDPS Act.
The SI said that Ravi and Ramesh were wearing saffron clothes. They had placed banners and flexes with big photos of Gods and Goddesses around the frame of the three-wheeler tempo. They used to smuggle ganja by hanging flower garlands inside the frame. They were smuggling ganja from Andhra Pradesh to Punjab.
