SHANKER, SHATAKSHIKA AND RUBANI IN CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND

Top seed Shanker Heisnam and Chandan Shivaraj lifted the boys under-18 doubles title in the CLTA-AITA National Series Tennis Tournament for Boys and Girls under-18 at the Sector 10 Tennis Stadium, Sector 10, here.

They defeated J Prasannakumar Deorukhakar and Jay Prakash Pawar of Maharashtra 6-0, 6-4.in the final. ia Mahajan and Shatakshika Sahayak won the girls under-18 doubles title after beating Radha Sadhra and Rubani Kaur Sidhu in a closed contestant match 6-7(4), 6-4, 10-5.

CLTA trainee and third seed Shanker Heisnam and sixth seed Jatin Nain of Haryana advanced into singles final in the boys under-18. Fenesta National Champion of Boys under-16 Shanker Heisnam upset top seed Chandan Shivaraaj of Karnataka in a three- setter marathon match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

After the set down Shanker came back strongly with his powerful forehand to beat Chandan Shivaraaj. After 4 games all Shanker broke Chandan’s serve in 9 game and served for the second set. Shanker played solid match in 10th game and took the second set 6-4.

In the final set Shanker came with high energetic game and maintained his momentum, finally Shanker closed the third set and match 6-3 without getting much pressure.

In the second semifinals match sixth seed Jatin Nain of Haryana overpowered Yashasvi Balhara of Chandigarh 6-2, 6-4 in straight sets. Shanker will play against Jain Nain in boys under-18 singles final tomorrow.

Another CLTA Trainees third seed Shatakshika Sahayak and fourth seed Rubani Kaur Sidhu also advanced into final in the Girls under-18 singles. Third seed Shatakshika defeated Devasjree Shailesh of Maharashtra 7-5, 6-4 in straight sets. Shatakshita Sahayak played top quality tennis and maintained her consistency throughout the match.

Shatakshika will play against Rubani Kaur Sidhu in Girls under-18 singles final tomorrow. Rubani Kaur Sidhu upset top seed Ananya Dhankar of Haryana in straight sets 6-4, 7-5.

Rubani maintained her momentum and played good tennis throughout the match.
