Dental care is the gateway to a healthy body. The food taken through teeth makes every part of the body effective. Therefore dental care plays a vital role in health management. Don't ignore them. These sentiments were expressed by the experts during the opening ceremony of Center for Skill Enhancement in Dental Care at Sector 18 on Wednesday.

Dr. Puneet Girdhar, Joint Director, Directorate of Medical and Research Education, Government of Punjab and Registrar, Dental Council of India (DCI) inaugurated the skill centre. During the inaugural session, Dr. Girdhar advocated the utility of the center and emphasized that this initiative will prove to be a milestone in dental care. Through this center, not only dental students, practitioners and professionals will be able to acquire high-class technologies and competencies but will also be able to provide a new and evolving dimension to the dental profession.

Dr. Vijita Mehta, Director of the centre informed that non-affording patients will get treatment here on charitable basis. The center has taken the initiative to provide dental treatment to low-income patients by having a tie-up with three NGOs of the city. She said that the trainees will get in-hand experience on these patients.

(SUBHEAD)This center is equipped with modern equipment for teaching through microscopic treatment, which will make it easier for the trainees to understand the subtle diseases of teeth. She lauded that dental care courses are massively demanding in the country because this form of treatment in abroad is very expensive and also time-consuming. On the other hand, dentistry is still affordable in our country, due to which India has emerged as a dental tourism destination in the world in the last few years. This center will further strengthen dental tourism.

On this occasion, Dr. Jose Thomas, a renowned Endodontist expert specially invited from Calicut, Kerala to conduct a Composite Artistry Workshop wherein about 20 dental students and professionals from the region participated.
