The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Supdt. of Customs, Courier Cell, International Courier Terminal, Mumbai for demanding and acceptance of Rs 80,000/- bribe from the complainant.

A case was registered by CBI against accused Supdt. of Customs posted at Courier Cell, International Courier Terminal, Sahar, Andheri East, Mumbai on allegations that the complainant had imported some machine part from China, which reached Mumbai International Courier Terminal on 06.07.2024 through a Courier firm. It was also alleged that when complainant met accused, he told complainant that he had to pay anti-dumping duty of Rs. 2,80,000/- (approx.) for release of the consignment imported by him.

Thereafter, the accused Supdt. allegedly asked the complainant to pay him an undue advantage of Rs.1,40,000/- i.e. 50% value of the anti-dumping duty and assured him that if he pays him the above amount, he would clear the consignment without payment of anti-dumping duty of Rs. 2,80,000/-. It was further alleged that on showing inability to pay Rs.1,40,000/- as undue advantage by the complainant, the accused Supdt. of Customs reduced the amount to Rs. 1.00 lakh. After negotiations the accused further reduced alleged demand of undue advantage to Rs. 80,000/-.

CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red handed while accepting the undue advantage of Rs. 80,000/- from the complainant at his office. Thereafter, accused was arrested by the CBI.

Search was conducted by CBI at the residential premises of accused situated at Ulwe, Navi Mumbai.

The arrested accused was produced before the Competent Court, Mumbai today i.e. on 17.07.2024 and has been remanded to three days police custody. Investigation is continuing.
