DELHI POLICE BUSTED INTERSTATE GANG OF RADIO UNIT THIEVES, 130 RRU (REMOTE RADIO UNIT) WORTH Rs. 04 CROREs RECOVERED.

6 THIEVES HAVE BEEN ARRESTED,  47 CASES REGARDING THEFT OF RRUS REPORTED AT DIFFERENT POLICE STATIONS IN DELHI, UP, BIHAR, JHARKHAND, ASSAM AND WEST BENGAL HAVE BEEN SOLVED,  SUCH A BIG CONSIGNMENT OF RRUS WAS ACCUMULATED FOR EXPORTING IT ABROAD

With the arrest of six thieves, the teams of Central Range and Cyber Cell, Crime Branch have busted an interstate gang of thieves indulged in theft of RRUs (Radio Remote Unit) from Mobile Towers installed at different locations in Delhi, NCR and Assam. Total 130 RRUs installed by different telecommunication companies at Mobile Towers installed at various locations in Delhi, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and West Bengal have been recovered at their instances which were accumulated by them for exporting it abroad.

A Remote Radio Unit (RRU), commonly referred to as a Remote Radio Head (RRH), is a transceiver that you’ll find on wireless base stations. These transceivers connect wireless devices with wireless networks, making it possible to send and receive text messages, among other things.

OPERATION: 1 SI Subhash Chand and HC Raushan Kumar of Central Range, Crime got information from secret informer about an interstate gang of thieves indulged in theft of RRUs (Radio Remote Unit) from Mobile Towers in Delhi, NCR other States of country. They collected the data of FIRs registered at different Police Stations in Delhi regarding theft of RRUs and gone through. They also developed the information based on technical and artificial intelligence.

On the basis of analysis of data and the information provided by the secret informer, a team headed by Inspr. Sunil Kumar Kalkhande comprising of SI Subhash Chand, SI Birpal Singh, SI Sanjay Rana, ASI Harish Bisht, ASI Pushpa Das, HC Raushan Kumar, HC Vijay Singh, HC Samander Kumar, HC Jai Singh, HC Parveen Kumar, HC Anoop Kumar and W/Ct. Shabana was constituted under the supervision of Sh. Pankaj Arora, ACP/Central Range, Crime and overall supervision of Sh. Rakesh Paweriya, DCP/Crime-II, Delhi to carry out an operation and bust the gang.

Mr. Sanjay Bhatia, IPS, Addl. Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Delhi, said , the above accused interrogated at length and on sustained interrogation, they broke down and disclosed about the commission of theft of RRUs from the Mobile Towers installed at different locations in Delhi, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and West Bengal. Further, on their instances, 126 RRUs were recovered from a godown situated in the area of Pandav Nagar, Delhi. Out of them, so far 43 RRUs have been connected as reported to be stolen from different Police Stations in Delhi and other States (Delhi -16, UP-01, Assam-20, Bihar-02, Jharkhand-02 and West Bengal-02). 

As per information, the above team laid a trap on the road leading to Pandav Nagar from NH-9, Akshardham Temple and apprehended three persons and one of them was carrying of a bag with him. On checking of the bag, a RRU was found in it and on verification it was found reported to be stolen in case FIR No. 80038243/2024 dated 13.04.2024 u/s 379 IPC registered at PS Karawal Nagar, North East, Delhi. They were identified as Adil (25 Years), Sadiq (21 Years) and Adnan (22 Years), all resident of Meerut, UP.

INTERROGATION AND ARREST:  Mr. Sanjay Bhatia, IPS, Addl. Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Delhi, said , the above accused interrogated at length and on sustained interrogation, they broke down and disclosed about the commission of theft of RRUs from the Mobile Towers installed at different locations in Delhi, UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Assam and West Bengal. Further, on their instances, 126 RRUs were recovered from a godown situated in the area of Pandav Nagar, Delhi. Out of them, so far 43 RRUs have been connected as reported to be stolen from different Police Stations in Delhi and other States (Delhi -16, UP-01, Assam-20, Bihar-02, Jharkhand-02 and West Bengal-02). They had accumulated such a big consignment of stolen RRUs for exporting them abroad. Further investigation is still going to ascertain the source of recovered RRUs and further linking source or persons/gang through which they planned to export these RRUs out of the country.

Apart from the RRUs, tool kits have also been recovered at their instances with the help of them, they used to open and remove the RRUs from Mobile Towers. The above all accused persons were arrested in case FIR No. 80038243/2024, dated 13.04.2024, u/s 379/411/34 IPC, PS Karawal Nagar, Delhi. Information about their arrest have also been communicated to different Police Stations as well as to the office DG/Assam for ensure further necessary legal proceedings by the concerned IOs in their respective cases of RRU theft.

OPERATION 2: Acting upon secret information, a raid was conducted by the team of Cyber Cell Crime Branch at Zafrabad, Delhi accused Mohd Anas r/o Shaheed Nagar, Shahibabad, Ghaziabad, UP, aged 20 years and Mohd Mashkoor @ Shoaib r/o East Old Seelampur, Gandhi Nagar, Delhi, aged 30 years were apprehended with scooty and two stolen machines of network tower (RRUs). From their cursory search, 1 country made pistol and 4 live cartridges were also recovered. Hence, a case vide FIR NO. 131/2024 dt 26.06.2024 u/s 25/54/59 Arms Act, PS Crime Branch, Delhi was registered and both the accused persons were arrested.

OPERATION 3: Acting upon secret information, a raid was conducted by the team of Cyber Cell Crime Branch and accused Farhan r/o Mandawali, Delhi, aged 21 years was apprehended with scooty and after checking, tools used for dismantling RRU of Telecom Network Tower recovered from the diggi of his scooty and 02 RRUs. Hence, he was arrested in Case e-FIR NO. 80067622/24, DT 26.06.2024, U/S 380/454 IPC, e-PS Mandawali, East District, Delhi.

RECOVERY AND CASES WORKED OUT: 1. 130 highly expensive stolen RRUs (RADIO REMOTE UNIT) of mobile towers,  High-tech hardware tools (used to break/removing the RRU from mobile towers).,  With the above recovery RRUs, 45 cases (Delhi -18, UP-01, Assam-20, Bihar-02, Jharkhand-02 and West Bengal-02) have been solved so far and further investigation is going to ascertain the status of other RRUs. 1 country made pistol and 4 live cartridges.,  One Scooty.

PROFILE OF ACCUSED PERSONS: Accused persons Adil, Sadiq and Adnan earlier used to work as scrap dealer in Meerut, UP. Accused Adil and Sadiq are real brother and well aware about the high cost and demand of RRUs in different countries. Therefore, Adil formed a gang by associating his brother Sadiq & Adnan and started committing theft of RRUs from mobile towers.
