Farmers of Fazilka district have largely supported the efforts of the administration for stubble management and the cases of stubble burning in the district have reduced by 78.29 percent compared to last year.
The district administration, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, started a comprehensive farmer awareness campaign right from the beginning of the paddy harvest and took the initiative to directly communicate with the farmers.
Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Sandeep Rinwa said that in the year 2022, as many as 2856 incidents of stubble burning were recorded in the district through satellite. In the previous year i.e. 2023, this number was 1843 and this year this number has reduced to just 400. He said that this reduction becomes even more significant when the area under paddy and basmati was increased this year as compared to the previous year in the district.
He said that the farmers, instead of burning stubble, used alternative methods to manage stubble and sowed wheat. He said that its good results will be even more visible to the farmers in the coming time when the fertility of the land will gradually increase by mixing stubble in the land. He said that as per the guidelines of the district administration, the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department will maintain contact with the farmers in the same manner and all kinds of technical information regarding wheat cultivation will be provided to the farmers.
