The Rajasthan Police have issued an advisory to protect people from cyber fraud. The Cyber Crime Branch of the Police Headquarters has advised people to file complaints about cybercrime immediately, beware of frauds committed by thugs in the name of congratulatory messages.
DGP (Cyber Crime) Hemant Priyadarshi said that efforts are being made by the police to curb cybercrimes and bring awareness among the general public. Before the upcoming festivals and New Year, cybercriminals can commit cyber fraud by sharing links for greetings and gifts to the general public.
The DGP said that cyber criminals can also try to commit cyber fraud by sending links for uploading KYC and other documents in the name of creating a new version of PAN card for upcoming Christmas, New Year greetings and gifts through social media platforms WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, Facebook or through messages.
(SUBHEAD)He said that such links may contain malware. On clicking on the link, your device gets infected with malware, due to which the consumer can become a victim of any kind of cyber fraud. He advised people to not click on such fake links related to congratulations and gifts in any unknown temptation and greed.
The DGP said that the central government's plan to upgrade the existing PAN card as a digital card, PAN 2.0 can become a new medium of cyber fraud. Cybercriminals are trying to dupe people in the name of upgrading PAN cards. The process has not actually yet started. For this, first of all, one has to visit the official website of the Income Tax Department. The new PAN card can also be applied for through the income tax portal.
He said that if anyone becomes a victim of cybercrime, he should immediately file a complaint on the cyber helpline number 1930, cyber website https://cybercrime.gov.in and the nearest police station as well as the cyber police station
