Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora paid tributes to the 1971 Indo-Pak war martyrs at Asafwala War Memorial that was developed by the Shaheedon Ki Samadh Committee with the support of the district administration and Indian Army.
(MOREPIC1)He said that this monument is a sacred place for us and the whole country pays homage to this. We pay homage to those who sacrificed themselves to get freedom and protect it. He announced a grant of Rs 15 lakh for the war memorial.
(SUBHEAD)Earlier, he inaugurated a wall prepared in honour of the martyrs along with the Victory Tower and also met the families of the ex-servicemen and martyrs.
On this occasion, his wife Sabina Arora, MLAs Narinder Pal Singh Sawna, Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy, Amandeep Singh Goldy Musafir, Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, SSP Varinder Singh Brar were also present.
Chairman of the Samadh Committee Sandeep Gilhotra welcomed the distinguished guests. Other office bearers Shashi Kant, Praful Chander Nagpal, Ashish Pupneja, Ravi Nagpal were also present. Colonel MS Gill, Major General NR Jakhar, Brigadier Sushil Chandwani, Colonel Chandrakant Sharma who participated in the 1971 war were also present. Retired Deputy Director Public Relations Uma Sharma delivered the welcome speech.
The Cabinet Minister also felicitated the Vir Naris including Nirmala Devi, Kamala Devi, Rukmini Devi, Chhoti Devi, Suman Gauri Rajat and Phul Vanti.
