Dev Mittar Ahuja, vice president of DAV College Managing Committee, was cremated on Monday at Nanaksar Shiv Bhumi. His son Atul Ahuja, who lit the pyre, later said that a prayer meeting will be held at Punjab Palace here on Wednesday at 12 noon.

Former Deputy Commissioner KS Kang, MLA Sandeep Jakhar, Ex MLAs Arun Narang and Dr Mohinder Rinwa and Mayor Vimal Thatai were among those who offered floral tributes to the towering personality.

1935-born Ahuja passed away here on Sunday. He was son of Rai Sahib Kundan Lal Ahuja, who served as a member of the Punjab Legislative Council and as long-term president of the Abohar Municipal Committee.

Dev Mittar Ahuja was LAC chairman of DAV College, Gopichand Arya Mahila College and LRS DAV Sr Sec School. A meeting was also held in the school premises where principal Smita Sharma and staff offered flowers to the portrait of the deceased.

GAMC Principal Dr Rekha Sood Handa said, “His invaluable contributions, unmatched generosity, and unwavering leadership will forever remain a cherished legacy for our college. His loss is an irreparable void.”

Dr Neelam Arun Mittu, former principal of the GAMC, said Ahuja always contributed constructively for the betterment of the institution. He helped me in every way to ensure that the college progresses in every aspect. He was not only a guiding force but affectionate like an elder brother to me. His death is an irreparable loss.
