The Farmer Advisory Service of Punjab Agricultural University's Abohar Regional Center organised a training camp at Diwan Khera village in Abohar today. The experts provided technical information to the farmers about the work to be done in fruit orchards and alerted them to be more vigilant about the diseases.

Dr Krishan Kumar spoke about the importance of trimming citrus plants in orchards. He explained that only the dried, sick and damaged branches should be sorted. He advised that urea fertilizers should be used in three installments while single super phosphate fertilizers should be prioritized instead of DAP for phosphorus.

Dr Jagdish Arora said that there is a lack of organic content in the soil in the Abohar area and using manure can cover it. He also suggested the laying of paddy straw in the gardens. Agricultural and horticultural uses of paddy straw include mulching, manure through composting, and a source of natural herbicides. He advised farmers to be more careful to protect citrus and kinnow plants from diseases in February and March as bumper yield was awaited now.
