VIGILANCE BUREAU ARRESTS MARKET COMMITTEE MANDI SUPERVISOR FOR TAKING RS. 7,000 BRIBE

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state on Wednesday arrested Rashpal Singh, Mandi Supervisor posted at Market Committee, Kahnuwan, in Gurdaspur district for accepting a bribe of Rs. 7,000. 

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the state VB said the aforementioned accused has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by a Commission Agent in Grain Market, Kahnuwan. 

He further added that the complainant has approached the VB stating that the Market Committee Kahnuwan had wrongly imposed a penalty of Rs. 18,610 on his firm in December 2024. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the matter, Market Committee officials refused to withdraw the penalty. As the wheat procurement season was approaching, the complainant needed to renew the expired license of his another firm, registered in his mother’s name. The complainant alleged that when he approached the said accused Rashpal Singh to settle both issues, the supervisor had demanded Rs. 8,000 as a bribe. After negotiations, the amount was reduced to Rs. 7,000.

The spokesperson informed that after a preliminary verification of this complaint a VB team from Amritsar range laid a trap during which Rashpal Singh was caught red-handed while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 7,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case has been registered against the aforementioned accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station Amritsar range.
