CBI Court sentences then Superintendent/ Appraiser, O/o Development Commissioner, APSEZ, Mundra to 5 Years’ Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with a fine of Rs. 80 lakh in a Disproportionate Assets case
The Special CBI Court No. 8 for CBI Cases at Ahmedabad today i.e. on 21.04.2015 sentenced accused namely Shri. Pankaj J. Raval, then Superintendent/ Appraiser, O/o Development Commissioner, APSEZ, Mundra to 5 Yerars’ Rigorous imprisonment (RI) with a fine of Rs. 80 lakh in case of disproportionate assets.
CBI had registered the instant case on 20.04.2015 against accused against Shri Pankaj J. Raval, then Superintendent/ Appraiser, O/o Development Commissioner, APSEZ, Mundra and his wife on allegation that Sh. Pankaj J. Raval, then Superintendent, APSEZ, Mundra while working as public servant had amassed disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs. 45,37,178/- to his known source of income.
During investigation it was established that Shri Pankaj J. Raval had purchased huge Jewellery and accumulated other assets during the check period from 01.01.2009 to 26.02.2015. Investigation also established that Shri Pankaj J. Raval and his wife acquired Disproportionate Assets to the tune of Rs. 45,37,178/- during the check period, which was 153% disproportionate to their known sources of income.
Accordingly, CBI had filed a chargesheet on 26.11.2015 against Shri Pankaj J. Raval, Superintendent/ Appraiser, O/o Development Commissioner, APSEZ, Mundra and his wife.
Wife of accused public servant expired during trial, hence charges against her were abated by the Hon’ble Court.
During trial, CBI examined 35 prosecution witnesses and relied upon 101 documents/ exhibits in support of the charges against the accused persons. The Learned Court found merit in the charges against the accused and accordingly convicted/ sentenced him.
