The CBI Court, Chennai on Thursday, has convicted and sentenced the accused Chhota Rajan @ Vijaya Kadam @ Rajendra @ Nana to Seven Years Imprisonment with a fine of Rs. 55,000 for offences of Cheating, Forgery, Cheating by Personation, and for knowingly submitting false documents for obtaining a passport. The convict, Chota Rajan, is presently lodged in Tihar Jail, New Delhi, where he is already undergoing Rigorous Imprisonment for Life.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the instant case on 19.03.2002 against the accused Chhota Rajan @ Vijaya Kadam @ Rajendra @ Nana. It was alleged that the accused applied for and obtained a passport by submitting forged documents, thereby cheating the Regional Passport Office, Chennai.

Investigation revealed that the accused Chota Rajan had applied for Indian Passport in the name of Vijaya Kadam by submitting false documents such as Transfer Certificate from the School, Ration Card, DD, etc. It was also found that the real name of Vijaya Kadam was Rajendra @ Nana @ Chota Rajan S/o Sadashiv, a resident of Mumbai. The accused Chota Rajan had impersonated “Vijaya Kadam” and fraudulently and dishonestly obtained the passport from the Regional Passport Office, Chennai by submitting forged documents for age and residential proof and used the same as genuine to obtain the passport.

After investigation, the CBI filed charge-sheet on 22.01.2004 against the accused Chota Rajan. The Hon’ble Court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the accused accordingly.
