CHUCHRA FAMILY DECIDES TO KEEP VETERAN SOCIAL ACTIVIST’S MEMORY ALIVE

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

In an appreciable move, Chuchra family has decided to keep veteran social activist Jagdish Rai Chuchra’s memory alive. His brother Dr. Mahesh Chuchra, a retired veterinary surgeon, and sister-in-law Saroj Chuchra have pledged to name a hall after him—as the ‘Jagdish Chuchra Hall’ in the Arorvansh Bhawan located near Nehru Park.

Jagdish Rai Chuchra, who died in 2021, had served as chief of Sewa Bharti and other NGOs.

Additionally, the Lajwanti Thatai Hall—located above Shankar Hall, will also undergo similar renovation. According to the Trust, construction work on the lift, staircases, and the first floor of the Arorvansh Bhawan is currently underway. An appeal for support had been made to philanthropists to help complete this significant project. Trust officials thanked the Chuchra family, stating that their contribution would play a pivotal role in the building’s development and serve as an inspiration to the community.

Present on the occasion were Dr. Mahesh Chuchra, his wife Saroj Chuchra, Shri Chanan Lal Ahuja Charitable Arorvansh Trust President Dr. Rishi Narang, General Secretary Praveen Chawla, Senior Vice President Ashok Chhabra, and others.

Dr. Narang said that prior to this, contributions had been made by : Prince Gandhi ( Rs 2 Lakh in memory of his late father, Madan Lal Gandhi); Colonel SPR Gaba (Retd) (Rs 1 lakh in memory of his late mother, Jamuna Bai); Baldev Krishna Gulbadhar (Rs 1 lakh in memory of his father, Mahashya Ram Krishan Gulbadhar); Anil Taneja (Rs 1 lakh in memory of his mother, Soma Rani, and late father, Pyarelal Taneja); colonizer Ravi Makkar (Rs 1 lakh); Suresh Grover ‘Baggu’ ( Rs 51,000); and Subhash Chawla (Rs 51,000). According to the Trust, the estimated cost for constructing the lift and staircases is approximately Rs 10 lakh
