The staff of PS Cyber, South-West District, has worked out a case of cheating and theft involving two females accused who allegedly used a fictitious dating app profile to establish contact with a 67-year-old senior citizen and subsequently cheated him of ₹1.30 lakh after allegedly stealing his mobile phone. An e-FIR No. 381/26, U/s 318(4) BNS, dated 25.07.2026, was registered at PS Cyber, South-West District, on the complaint of a 67-year-old senior citizen. The complainant reported that he had come in contact with a woman through a dating app and subsequently communicated with her through Telegram. He later met the woman and her associate in Defence Colony, New Delhi.

On 24.07.2026, the complainant met both women at a restaurant in Defence Colony and had dinner with them. While leaving the restaurant, his mobile phone was allegedly stolen. Subsequently, ₹1,30,000/- was transferred through UPI from his two bank accounts without his consent.

INVESTIGATION & ARREST: Considering the nature of the offence and the age of the complainant, a dedicated team comprising SI Neeraj and HC Sandeep was constituted after registration of the FIR, under the leadership of Insp. Pravesh Kaushik, SHO/PS Cyber/South-West District, and under the overall supervision of Sh. Sandeep Ghai, ACP/Ops, South-West District.

The investigation focused on tracing the money trail, analysing beneficiary accounts, examining CCTV footage and conducting technical surveillance. Account opening forms, KYC documents, account statements and transaction details of the beneficiary accounts were obtained and analysed. The investigation revealed that the cheated amount of ₹1,30,000/- was transferred into an account maintained in the name of one of the accused and was subsequently transferred to another bank account belonging to her associate. Out of the cheated amount, ₹90,000/- was withdrawn through ATM.

Detailed examination of CCTV footage revealed two women withdrawing the cheated amount, providing a crucial lead to the investigating team. Further technical analysis and examination of banking transactions led to the identification and tracing of the two suspects. During interrogation, the modus operandi of the accused was unravelled. One accused had created and operated a dating app profile using a fictitious identity and established contact with the complainant. She subsequently involved her associate in the plan. The second accused was not the actual person operating the dating profile but met the complainant by impersonating the profile holder, thereby making him believe that he was meeting the same woman with whom he had interacted online.

Investigation further revealed that both accused had met the complainant on 20.07.2026 and 24.07.2026. During the second meeting, after dinner at a restaurant in Defence Colony, the complainant’s mobile phone was allegedly stolen. The investigation further revealed that the stolen mobile phone was subsequently destroyed by the accused persons, allegedly in an attempt to eliminate evidence. On the basis of the banking trail, CCTV footage, technical surveillance and other investigative leads, both female accused were identified and arrested in the present case.

PROFILE OF ACCUSED:  Jyotsna, resident of Delhi, aged 26 years, allegedly created and operated the fictitious dating app profile, established contact with the complainant and subsequently involved her associate Manshi in the plan and  Manshi, resident of Delhi, aged 21 years, allegedly met the complainant by impersonating the dating app profile holder and was subsequently involved in the transfer and withdrawal of the cheated amount.

MODUS OPERANDI: The accused allegedly adopted a deceptive modus operandi by creating a fictitious dating app profile to establish contact with the complainant. After developing communication with him online, the first accused involved her associate in the plan. The second accused then met the complainant by impersonating the dating app profile holder, concealing the actual identity of the person operating the profile.

The accused arranged physical meetings with the complainant and during the second meeting, allegedly stole his mobile phone. The mobile phone was then allegedly used to facilitate the transfer of ₹1.30 lakh through UPI from the complainant’s bank accounts. The amount was routed through another bank account, from where ₹90,000/- was withdrawn through ATM. The stolen mobile phone was subsequently destroyed, allegedly to eliminate evidence.  Further investigation of the case is in progress said Mr. Amit Goel, IPS, DCP, South West Distt.
