GANG INVOLVED IN FIRING AT PUNJABI SINGCER GULAB SINGH SIDHU’S HOUSE BUSTED, SIX HELD, TWO INJURED IN EXCHANGE OF FIRE

Police has busted a gang allegedly involved in firing outside the residence of Punjabi singer Gulab Singh Sidhu in Barnala district, arresting six persons and recovering several firearms and live cartridges from their possession, police said on Tuesday.
Two other suspects allegedly opened fire at a police party while attempting to flee and were injured in retaliatory firing. They are undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital in Barnala, police said.

Patiala Range DIG Kuldip Singh Chahal said the arrests were made as part of a special campaign launched by the Punjab Police to curb anti-social elements.

AIG Counter Intelligence Patiala Dr Simrat Kaur, Barnala SSP Mohammad Sarfaraz Alam and other senior police officials were also present at the press conference. According to the DIG, unidentified motorcycle-borne men had opened fire at the main gate of Sidhu’s house in Farwahi village during the intervening night of September 12 and 13. Some foreign-based criminals later claimed responsibility for the incident through social media handles, police said.
A case was registered at Barnala police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

The Barnala Police and Counter Intelligence had constituted separate teams to identify and apprehend those involved in the incident. Police teams carried out searches, raids, patrolling and naka checking using technical and scientific methods, the DIG said.

During the investigation, nine persons were identified as suspects in connection with the incident. Four of them were arrested from different locations on September 21, police said.

In a separate development on September 22, police teams spotted two persons travelling on an unregistered motorcycle from the Mansa side. When signalled to stop, they allegedly sped away towards a link road.

Police chased them and intercepted the motorcycle near the grid behind Pulada Road. One of the occupants allegedly opened fire at the police party with an intention to kill them, and a police vehicle was hit by a bullet, the DIG said.The police retaliated, during which one of the motorcycle-borne suspects suffered a bullet injury to his right leg, while the other was injured after falling from the motorcycle. Both were taken into custody and admitted to the Civil Hospital in Barnala.

The injured suspects were identified as Gurwinder Singh alias Ludhar, a resident of Ramgarh Sandhu in Sangrur district, and Gurpyar Singh alias Guri, a resident of Changliwala in Sangrur district. Police said Gurwinder was a key suspect in the firing outside Sidhu’s residence. A case was registered against the two at Rurka Kalan police station under relevant provisions of the BNS and Arms Act. Police recovered two pistols, magazines, eight live cartridges, five empty cartridges and an unregistered motorcycle from them, the DIG said. Gurwinder is also facing five cases registered during 2024 and 2025, police said.

Police also arrested Amritpal Singh alias Ambri, son of Matwal Singh and a resident of Namol in Sangrur district, and Sunny, son of Buglu and a resident of Lehragaga in Sangrur district, in connection with the investigation.

A 32-bore country-made pistol and five live cartridges were recovered from Amritpal Singh, police said. A separate case under the NDPS Act and Arms Act was registered on September 19.

The arrested persons were identified as Gurwinder Singh alias Shaktiman alias Sunny Deol, son of Satguru Singh, resident of Gaga in Sangrur; Gurpreet Singh alias Baba, son of Raghubir Singh, resident of Lehragaga; Ramanpreet Singh, son of Labh Singh, resident of Ramgarh Sandhwan in Sangrur; Gaurav Sharma alias Krishna Kumar, son of Ladi Kumar, resident of Lehragaga; Gurwinder Singh alias Ludhar; Gurpyar Singh alias Guri; Amritpal Singh alias Ambri; and Sunny.

Police said an Ertiga car bearing registration number PB-11-DC-6753, a 30-bore pistol with two live cartridges, an unregistered Splendor motorcycle, two pistols with magazines, eight live cartridges, five empty cartridges and a 32-bore country-made pistol with five live cartridges were among the items recovered during the investigation.

Further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend other persons allegedly linked to the firing incident, police said.
