Face2News/Zirakpur/Chandigarh

Today marked a historic day for the Baltana–Raipur Kalan region as the long-pending Railway Underpass (Road Under Bridge) project was formally inaugurated with a foundation stone laying ceremony. The project will be constructed at LC No. 123 (Special) on the Ambala–Chandigarh rail section and is expected to provide major relief to residents from traffic congestion, accidents, and daily commuting difficulties.

The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, along with the Union Minister of State for Railways S. Tejinder Singh Bittu,  Several distinguished guests, including Member of Parliament Manish Tewari, were also present on the occasion.

The event symbolized not just the beginning of a development project, but also the victory of nearly eight years of continuous public struggle, mass movements, and several phases of hunger strikes carried out by local residents demanding the underpass.
A significant role in securing approval for the project and consistently raising the voice of the public was played by Mr. Pratap Singh Rana, President of the Joint Action Committee.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rana said that the underpass is not merely a construction project, but the fulfillment of a long-standing demand of lakhs of residents of Baltana and nearby areas. He expressed gratitude to all residents, panches, sarpanches, social organizations, administrative officials, and public representatives who supported the movement throughout the years.

The event witnessed the presence of panches and sarpanches of Raipur Kalan, invited dignitaries, and a large number of local residents.
