OVERWHELMING RECEPTION TO BJP’S ‘DRUG-FREE PUNJAB YATRA’ AT ABOHAR

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ arrived in Abohar late yesterday evening, driven by the resolve to rid the state of the drug menace. Upon arrival, BJP leaders first paid their respects at the life-size statue of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh.

Addressing a mammoth gathering at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk, former state BJP President Sunil Jakhar linked the drug issue to Punjab’s future, stating that protecting the state’s youth from drugs is the responsibility of the entire society. He noted that Punjab has always made great sacrifices for the nation, and now it is time for all sections of society to unite and work towards liberating the state from the grip of drugs. BJP leaders emphasized that the objective of the ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ is to raise public awareness and foster social solidarity against drug abuse.

He appealed to the public to raise their voices against drugs and step forward to keep the youth away from this evil. During the event, BJP leaders stated that following a change of power in Punjab, an effective and decisive campaign against drugs would be launched, and making the state drug-free would be prioritized.

MLA Sandeep Jakhar said that the drug problem in Punjab is not merely a political issue but a serious matter concerning the state’s future. He noted that the youth of Punjab and their families are the ones most severely affected by drug abuse. At such a time, there is a need for effective action on the ground rather than mere political rhetoric. Targeting the Punjab government, the MLA alleged that the administration has completely failed to take effective action against the drug menace. He remarked that while the government makes grand claims regarding the fight against drugs, complaints and concerns from the public continue to surface at the grassroots level. He asserted that this battle cannot be limited to mere posters and publicity; rather, it requires strong political will and sustained action.
