Acting swiftly, the police claim to have cracked the mystery behind the attack on a property dealer which took place at the outskirts of the city last week within three days. The police have arrested five out of the six accused, including the main conspirator who had allegedly hatched the conspiracy behind the attack.

While divulging details, SSP Bhupinder Singh said that the victim, Ranjeet Singh, a resident of Peer Ahmed Khan village in the Sadar area, had a business partnership with one Akashdeep Singh alias Akash (26), a resident of the city area. The SSP said both were property dealers and had jointly bought three acres of land situated on the link road near Basti Nizamdeen to develop a colony.

“Out of these three acres of land, two acres belonged to Ranjeet while one acre belonged to Akashdeep. It was mutually decided by both that Akashdeep would pay an amount of Rs. 1.45 crore since he had a lesser share. Out of this Rs. 1.45 crore, Akashdeep had paid an amount of Rs. 20 lakh and was reluctant to pay the remaining amount,” said the SSP.

The SSP said that Akash, along with another accused Sukhchain Singh, hatched a conspiracy to kill Ranjeet so that Akash would not have to pay the balance amount. “The accused involved four other persons in this case, including Channa alias Billa alias Mota (23), Akash alias Babba (20), Jora (23), and one unidentified person. Akashdeep had promised to give five marla land to each of them to help him in killing Ranjeet,” said the SSP.

On May 4, the accused attacked Ranjeet with sharp-edged weapons while he was returning from his office situated near Hukumat Singh Wala village. However, Ranjeet luckily escaped. Later, an FIR under Sections 109, 118(1), 115(2), 332 and 3(5) of the BNS was registered at Kulgarhi police station (FIR No. 92) against unidentified persons.

The SSP said that during the investigation, the needle of suspicion tilted towards Akashdeep and later, following his arrest, the names of the other accused were also revealed.

“Out of all the accused, only one person is yet to be arrested while all the others have been arrested,” said the SSP.
While revealing an interesting fact related to this case, SSP Bhupinder Singh said that though accused Sukhchain was associated with Akashdeep, internally he was planning to kill him as well to grab the entire land. “The main plan was to remove Ranjeet from Akash’s path and then eliminate Akash himself. During the investigation, it also came to the fore that it was actually Sukhchain who had enticed Akashdeep to kill Ranjeet,” said the SSP.

The SSP said that a manhunt has been launched to nab the remaining accused and he will soon be arrested.
