In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab has arrested an operative of a foreign-based gangster network and recovered one country-made illegal .32 bore pistol along with two live cartridges from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Tuesday.

The arrested accused has been identified as Jasdeep Singh alias Jassa (25), a resident of village Beer Behman in Bathinda.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused had procured the illegal weapon on the directions of a foreign-based gangster and was planning to carry out a sensational crime in Punjab.

The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case.

Sharing operational details, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban said that police teams from AGTF were on a routine patrolling when they noticed a man standing in a suspicious manner near the boundary wall of Rajindra College, and on noticing the police vehicle, he suddenly became nervous.

Finding his conduct suspicious, the AGTF team immediately detained him, who identified himself as Jasdeep alias Jassa, he said, while adding that during his search, one .32 bore pistol along with two live cartridges was recovered from his possession.

The ADGP said that arrested accused Jasdeep Singh alias Jassa has a criminal history and has been involved in various criminal cases, including cases pertaining to the Arms Act and other criminal activities.
