Solidarity Committee for P.U. and College Students, Chandigarh today took out a candle light procession on the P.U. campus and extended full support to the agitating students against the fee hike. Addressing the gathering Kamaljit Singh, committee member, said that the fee rise is unprecedented and should be rolled back immediately to restore peace on the campus.
Prof Manjit Singh, convener of the committee while condemning the brutal lathi charge on the students and their victimization said that the MHRD through UGC must address the financial crisis of the University immediately so that the poor parents are not taxed for the enhanced tuition fee. The university administration, instead of pressing upon the union and state government for releasing the due funds have took the opposite path to tax the students. The fee hike must be revoked and rather cooperation from the students, teachers and university employees must be sought to put pressure on the governments to give our due. Prof Jatinder Singh from Punjabi university Patiala, Namita, committee member and Gurdip Singh, former president of the employees union, PU also addressed the gathering. Before concluding the rally the students were assured that they should not get frightened from the brutalities of the administration and police and the protest must be kept peaceful.
