SEXUAL HARASSMENT: ASSISTANT PROFESSOR FOUND GUILTY, PU TO SERVE DISMISSAL NOTICE

The PU senate initiated a follow up action on the Enquiry Report against conduct of a former PU Senate member. The Senate resolved to authorize the Vice Chancellor to form a committee to determine nature of action under the provisions of Regulations of Panjab University so as to resist his membership of Senate in the future.

The Senate approved the constitution of the new Panjab University Committee Against Sexual Harassment (PUCASH). The Committee is to be Chaired by Prof. Manvinder Kaur, Department-cum-Centre for Women Studies and Development, Panjab University and to  be convened Dr. (Ms.) Ameer S. Sultana, Centre for Women Studies.

Senate accepted the PUCASH reports which found an Assistant Professor of the University guilty of charges of Sexual Harassment in different cases and resolved that he be suspended from service and be served a show cause notice as to why he should not  be dismissed from service.

The Senate was pleased to confer the title of Professor Emeritus to Prof. B.S. Brar in Political Science, Prof. (Ms.) Sudesh Kaur Khanduja in Mathematics, Prof. B.M. Deb, in Chemistry, Prof. (Ms.) Suman Bala Beri in Physics and Prof. (Ms.) Rani Balbir Kaur in Indian Theatre.

Earlier VC Of Panjab University informed the house the sad demise of Highly regarded and profusely honoured, the World Renowned Nephrologist Professor Kirpal Singh Chugh of PGIMER on September 17, 2017. He was an alumnus of PU and the first qualified Indian nephrologist. He obtained MD with specialization in urinary diseases as ‘Nephrology. House payhomage and took two minutes silence for peace to the departed soul.
