BSF HALF MARATHON - 2017 : RUN FOR MARTYRS ORGANISED AT FRONTIER HQRS BSF JALANDHAR

Border Security Force is India‟s first line of defence, guarding Indo-Pak and Indo- Bangladesh Borders under dynamic operational situations and the given multi geo terrains. More than 2000 brave Praharis have laid down their lives in the line of duty.The supreme sacrifice made by these gallant Praharis of the country should be remembered by the Nation for all times to come.

To commemorate the valiant deeds and supreme sacrifice made by BSF Praharis in  the service of motherland “BSF Half Marathon - 2017” was organized at Frontier HQrs BSF Jalandhar, Punjab on 22 Oct 2017. This BSF Half Marathon was organized in 02 categories i.e. Run for Martyr’s - For Men (above 18 yrs) 21 Kms and Run for Fun -Men/Women (all age groups) 05 Kms.

Gurbachan Singh, (86) alongwith 5 veterans (above 60) from Sant Bhag Singh University, Adampur were the oldest participants while Baby Astha (9), was the youngest participant in 5 Kms Run for Fun. Baby Navneet Kaur (10 ) and Master Karanvir Singh (11 ) finished the 5 kms run as youngest participants and were rewarded separately. 580 runners (498 participants in 05 Kms and 82 participants in 21  Kms Run) of all age groups participated in BSF Half Marathon – 2017.

BSF Half Marathon - 2017” was flagged off by Shri Mukul Goel, IPS, InspectorGeneral, BSF Punjab Frontier alongwith Shri Baldev Singh, a BSF veteran and an Arjuna Awardee of 1999 from BSF Chowk, Jalandhar on 22nd Oct 2017 at 0700 hrs. Shri Baldev Singh represented India in 1st Hockey World Cup at Barcelona (1971), 2nd World Cup at Amsterdam (1973), Asian Games at Tehran (1974), Olympics at Montreal (1976). He participated in Quaid-E-Azam International Hockey Tournament at Lahore in 1976 as  Vice-Captain of Indian Hockey team. He was also part of Indian team in 4th World Cup (1978) held at Buenos Aires.

The BSF Half Marathon was witnessed and participated by people from all age groups in large number. The BSF Half Marathon was finishe d at Ashwani Stadium, BSF Campus, Jalandhar, where it was welcomed by Chief Guest Shri Mukul Goel, IPS, Inspector General, BSF Punjab Frontier alongwith  Sh Baldev Singh, BSF veteran and an Arjuna Awardee, Sh R S Kataria, DIG, Sh T R Meena, DIG, Sh Gurpal Singh, DIG and other BSF Officers.Families of BSF Martyrs from Punjab state were also invited to be the part of prize distribution ceremony. Families of BSF Martyrs were also honoured and presented Shawls by Sh Mukul Goel IPS IG BSF.

Shri Mukul Goel, IPS, IG BSF Punjab Frontier a/w Sh Baldev Singh BSF veteran and an Arjuna Awardee presented the prizes, medals and mementoes to the Winners and participants of the ‘BSF Half Marathon - 2017’. Following participants were declared

Mr.R.S.Kataria, DIG, BSF, Panjab Frontier said, Shri Harbinder Bhalla, ACP Traffic, Punjab Police Jalandhar alongwith his team ensured safe passage of the BSF Half Matarthon through various parts of the JalandharCity.

This BSF Half Marathon was aimed to build the positive image of BSF and to promote the spirit of adventure and enterprise among the population particularly youth in India. This will motivate, inspire and promote spirit of National Integration and patriotism amongst public at large. It will also create awareness among public towards the onerous task of Border Management performed by BSF in a challenging environment. It was also  an effort to connect public to commemorate the BSF Martyrs who made supreme sacrifice to safeguard the frontiers of the Nation. Similarly, BSF Half Marathon - 2017 was also organized at Sector HQrs Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Abohar also.
