Haryana would give lifetime monthly pension to the Hindi ‘satyagrahis’ and those from Haryana who were jailed during the Emergency, hiked financial assistance to veterans of the Second World War and their widows, and provide ten-hour power supply to the agriculture sector from tomorrow (Wednesday).

These were among the many announcements made by the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, while speaking at the closing ceremony of the year-long Swarna Jayanti celebrations of the state at a grand ceremony organised at Mahabir Stadium in Hisar, today. The Vice-President, Mr M. Venkaiah Naidu, was the chief guest on the occasion.

Welcoming the Vice-President, the Chief Minister said from tomorrow, the agriculture sector in the state would start getting ten hours of electricity daily. Faridabad rural has become the fourth district in the state to start getting 24-hour electricity supply in the rural areas, he added.

He rued the fact that despite Haryana being a product of the language agitation, the ‘satyagrahis’ for mother tongue had been ignored for 47 long years. Having honoured them and given the facility of travel concession in state-run buses on August 15, the state government has now decided to give them lifetime monthly pension of Rs 10,000, which would be paid to their widows after their death.

Recalling the fact that Mr M. Venkaiah Naidu had himself been jailed during the dark days of Emergency, Mr Manohar Lal said under a programme named “Shubrajyotsana”, the state government had identified the people who had been jailed during that period and given them the facility of free medical treatment and free travel in state-run buses. Now, it has also been decided to give them lifetime monthly pension of Rs 10,000, which would be given to their widows after their death.

The Chief Minister also announced enhanced monthly financial assistance of soldiers from Haryana who took part in the Second World War, and their widows, from Rs 4,500 to Rs 10,000.
Lauding the indomitable spirit of the people of Haryana, he said every other family in the state had either sent a son to protect the country’s frontiers, or produced medal winning sportspersons, or contributed to the food pool of the country.

Highlighting the extraordinary work his government has been able to do during its three-year term in office which other governments could not, the Chief Minister said government jobs had been provided to 156 next of kin of heroes from the state who had laid down their lives in post-Independence wars and while doing internal security by engaging terrorists.

These include 130 from the armed forces, 12 from BSF and 14 from CRPF. “We have also given jobs to the next of kin of two martyrs of the 1971 war. Among those who got government jobs are 31 war widows, 27 daughters, 89 sons, one daughter-in-law and eight brothers of the martyrs”, the Chief Minister added
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor, Prof. Kaptan Singh Solanki, said that during the Swarna Jayanti Year of the state, welfare works for each section of the society have been done which has laid a strong foundation for the development of Haryana.

He said it was a matter of pride for him to become the Governor of Haryana during the Swarna Jayanti year and join in the celebrations of the state. Exhorting the people to follow the mantra of “Haryana Ek Haryanvi Ek”, he asked them to contribute to making the state more prosperous.

The Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, has resolved to end six evils from the society by 2022 when the country would be celebrating its 75 years of Independence. These include dirtiness, poverty, corruption, violence, casteism and communalism. He hoped that Haryana would be further glorified in the world in the times to come and would again be recognized as Jagatguru in 2047.
The Governor also congratulated the people on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. Sardar Patel had played a vital role in the unity and integrity of the country, he added.
