Panjab University (PU) is observing the Vigilance Awareness Week from 30th October to 04th November, 2017 in line with the nation-wide initiative of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to promote integrity, transparency and accountability in public life. A Seminar on the theme “My Vision ‒ Corruption Free India” was held at PU under the aegis of the Vigilance Cell,here today.

 The Seminar was inaugurated by Sh. Gurbachan Jagat, Former Governor of Manipur and the Guests of Honour were Sh. Hardayal Singh, Former Additional Secretary, CVC and Smt. Urvashi Gulati, Former Chief Secretary to the Government of Haryana. Vice Chancellor, PU Prof. Arun K. Grover, Dean of University Instruction, PU Prof. Meenakshi Malhotra and Registrar (In-Charge) and Controller of Examinations, PU Dr. Parvinder Singh were also present.

The Seminar was attended by senior functionaries of the PU including deans of faculties, chairpersons, directors and coordinators of various departments, institutes, centres as well as administrative officers.

Speaking at the Inaugural ceremony,the Chief Guest Sh. Gurbachan Jagat encouraged the participants to ensure positive outcomes from this conference and opined that education alone can make a difference, especially in building an ethical stance. He also expounded practices and issues especially concurring marginalized rural and farmer community in face of corruption.

Sh. Hardayal Singh elaborated on the vigilance angle of corruption. He emphasized that efforts should be made to enhance transparency and reduce discretion so as to plausibly contain corruption.

Smt. Urvashi Gulati emphasized the need to put in place comprehensive and systemic anti-corruption policies and systems. She lauded the role of e-governance in restricting corrupt practices.

Welcoming the guests Prof. Meenakshi Malhotra, DUI, PU shared with the audience her experiences as the first Chief Vigilance Officer of Panjab University, Vigilance Cell, Panjab University which was established on 16th November, 2015.

In his inaugural address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Arun K. Grover shared how he thought about establishing the Vigilance Cell at Panjab University and the important role it has played in the governance of the University.He urged all to set an example so that ethical practices of PU are emulated by all.

The Seminar concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Suveera Gill, Chief Vigilance Officer, PU. She expressed her delight at the keen participation which the seminar has been able to draw and thanked deans, faculty and officers of the PU. Prof. Gill expressed her gratitude to the guests who spoke on the important seminar theme which stimulated keen interaction during the open floor discussion.
