HIGH LEVEL DELEGATION VISITED PANJAB UNIVERSITY

A high level delegation comprising of Dr Jackie Hogan, President and the Vice-Chancellor of University of Fraser Valley(UFV), Dr. Mark Evered, former Vice-Chancellor UFV, Dr. Peter Geller, Vice-Provost Academic, Prof. Satwinder Bains, Director, South Asian Studies Institute, UFV and Principal of UFV India, Chandigarh Campus; Mr. Gurneet Anand, Director of UFV Chandigarh Campus and Mr. Nav Bains, Chair UFV Alumni visited Panjab University, Chandigarh here today.

Prof. Arun Kumar Grover, Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh in his address said there is a need to engage with colleges to make  undergraduates market/job ready and also to engage with each other for teaching assignments besides research. He said that in order to sustain the relationship between  UFV  and PU, there is a need to explore opportunities to enhance and strengthen newer ways of collaborations at institutional level and also engage with Alumni Association of PU Campus Students in Vancouver.

He insisted that 

PU should a further at central place for Canada and India partnership from where the idea should spread to other universities as well. He also suggested establishment of Centre for Excellence where faculty from UFV should come on sabbatical leave and take up teaching assignments at PU. He also suggested UFV to become a member of CRIKC.

Dr Jackie Hogan in her address said that the faculty from UFV can come here and engage specially in  studies related to agriculture in the two regions (BC and Punjab), culture ,criminology studies etc. She further added that the undergraduates students engaged in research with their teachers can get a great opportunity to come and explore India.

Prof. Mark. D. Evered in his address said that UFV and PU have a responsibility to produce global citizens and further added that to bring Canadians to PU to study and research and to take the graduates from here to Canada on exchange programme and also offered for joint collaborations

Prof. Satwinder Bains  informed that faculty at UFV is trying to build connections with scholars from PU and we are focusing on institutionalizing our relationship at higher level and focus on interdisciplinary areas. She informed about various projects which are already underway. It was proposed to form a small sub group for responsibilities and give proposal by the end of November

Dr Peter  said that they are looking for funds like visiting scholars fund, International funds for funding the visiting faculty. He also proposed to increase and promote student mobility ,joint degree or double degree and looking forward to build strategic partnership, taking forward already established links

Mr Gurneet proposed to have an Epic centre at PU and consider awarding joint degrees by two Universities with twinning arrangements at SD College here.
