SMUGGLERS STOCKING LIQUOR FOR HOLI: ONE ARRESTED WITH FIVE THOUSANDS QUARTERS OF HARYANA COUNTRY LIQUOR

In the continuing crackdown on liquor smugglers and bootleggers in South-EastDistrict, the staff of PS Lajpat Nagar, South-East District haveintercepted a van load full of liquor and arrested the bootlegger namely RajKumar (32 years) R/o Ravi Nagar, Khyala Village, Tilak Nagar, Delhi while transporting 5000 quarters of country liquor for sale in Haryana only in 100 cartons (each carton contained 50 quarters) in a TATA ACE vehicle. A case vide FIR No-58/18, dated 12/02/18, u/s-33/58 Delhi Excise Act has been registered at PSLajpat Nagar and accused has been arrested.

In the run up to the Holi festival and during Holi, demand for liquor rises in the city especially among labour class. Incidence of bootlegging also goes up inthis period due to high sales & profit. Therefore, in view of the upcoming Holi festival, accused Rajkumar procured a huge consignment of country liquor from Gurgaon and was on the way to supply the same to bootleggers in Delhi. He used minor & inroads of the city to smuggle liquor during the early morning hours.  Furtherinvestigation of the case is in progress.   

Mr. Chinmoy Biswal, IPS, DCP, said,  in the early hours of 12.02.2018 information was received by SI Ram Kumarregarding supply of liquor near Madrasi Camp towards Jungpura railway crossing,Lajpat Nagar. The said information was further developed and a team under the leadershipof SHO/Lajpat Nagar Insp. Pankaj Malik comprising of SI Ram Kumar, HC ManSingh, HC Umender Sharma was constituted under the supervision of ACP/LajpatNagar Sh. Brijender Singh and a trap was laid near Lajpat Nagar railwaycrossing, Madrasi Camp.

On12.02.18 at about 04.30AM, a TATA ACE delivery van was seen coming fromJangpura side. The police team intercepted the vehicle and overpowered the vandriver. During search of the van 100cartons of Rasila Santra Masaledar Sharab ‘For Sale in Haryana Only’comprising 5000 quarters of liquor were recovered. Accused driver was identified as Raj Kumar (32 ) R/o Ravi Nagar, Khyala Village, Tilak Nagar. Accordingly,a case vide FIR No- 58/18, dated 12/02/18, u/s-33/58 Delhi Excise Act has been registered at PS Lajpat Nagar. Accused Raj Kumar has been arrested and liquorand TATA ACE (Chotta Hathi) vehicle have been seized. 

Police said, during sustained interrogation accused Raj Kumar disclosed that he is a native of Jhansi, U.P and around 15 years ago he came to Delhi in search of some work. He used to live as a tenant in Tilak Nagar and started driving auto rickshaw in the local area.

 To make up for lost years in Tihar

He revealed that in 2012 he alongwith his 03 other friends was arrested in a murder case in Ranhola but he was acquitted by the Hon’ble Court and was released from jail in the year 2017. After releasing from the jail he decided to make up for the lost years in Tihar jail and to earn quick money. He chose illegal liquor supply as a means to earn quick money and purchased a second hand TATA ACE delivery van (Chotta Hathi) to smuggle Haryana liquor from godowns near Rajiv Chowk, Gurgaon to supply to bootleggers in jhuggi areas in Delhi at hiked prices.
