The Haryana Government has decided to give ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh under the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Accident Assistance Scheme, to the family in case the deceased is between 18 and 70 years of age, and he dies in an accident.

This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Mr Krishan Kumar Bedi, while addressing a press conference, here today.

During the reign of the previous government, the scheme was functional in the name of Rajiv Gandhi Parivar Bima Yojna. Then, the benefit was given only in case the deceased was between 18 and 60 years of age, was head of the family, and fell in BPL category. But, on the initiative of the Chief Minister, Mr Manohar Lal, decision has been taken to remove these conditions and increase the age limit to 70 years.

Under the scheme, assistance of Rs 1 lakh would be given, provided the deceased is not a beneficiary of any such Central Government scheme, Mr Bedi added.
