SAM CURRAN DOES THE 'TRICK' FOR KINGS XI PUNJAB AGAINST DELHI CAPITALS

All-rounder from Samuel Matthew Curran from Northmpton produced a deadly spell of bowling by claiming four wickets for 11 runs, including a hat-trick, in 2.2 overs as Kings XI Punjab snatched a thrilling 14-run creditable win against Delhi Capitals in the the Indian Premier League night match at the iS Bindra PCa Stadium here tonight.
Put in to bat by Delhi Capitals after winning the toss, Kings XI Punjab posted 166 for 9 in 20 overs with Sarfaraz Khan (39) and David Miller (43) making major contributions. Mandeep Singh remained not out on 29.
Required to score 167 runs for victory, 'Match of the Man' Sam Curran shattered Delhi Capitals' aspirations for victory. In the last six matches they have played Kings XI recorded their fifth triumph. In this edition, they have won three matches out of four they have played so far.
In his quest for three-in-a-row, Curran first dismissed HV Patel (0) who was caught by wicketkeeper Rahul. His second victim in his hat-trick was Kasigo Rabada (0) who was bowled. Curran achieved his unique feat bowling Sandeep Lamichhane (0). Earlier he took the wicket for Colin Ingram who was caught by substitute KK Nair (0). He did not allow his victims even to open their accounts.
Ravindran Ashwin (2 for 31), Mohammed Shami (2 for 27) and Hardous Viljoen (1 for 22) were the other wicket takers for Kings XI Punjab.
Kings XI Punjab got an early success as they had opener Prithvi Shaw caught by Rahul of the bowling of Ravindran Ashwin. His wicket fell without any score.
Shikhar Dhawan and captain Shreyas Iyer gave stability to Delhi Capitals by stitching a 61-run partnership for the second wicket. Iyer departed after contributing 28 runs from 22 balls. He was bowled by Vuljoen. Shikhar Dhawan also returned to the paviliion after making a valuable contribution of 30 runs. He faced 25 deliveries and slammed four boundaries. Delhi Capitals were 82 for 3 in 9.5 overs.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishab Pant and Colin Ingram played a resolute game. They took their total to 144 for 5 in 16.4 overs from 82 for 3 in 9.5 overs. This partnership was broken by Mohammed Shami who bowled Pant with a fine delivery. Pant's individual contribution was 39 which included three fours and two sixes from 26 balls.
After this, Delhi Capitals lost remaining their six wickets for just eight runs. They were dismissed for 156 in 19.4 overs.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss but preferred to chase. Sarfaraz Khan (39), top scorer David Miller (43) propped their their innings with a 62-run association for the fourth wicket.
Sam Curran (20), Mandeep Singh (29 not out) and Lokesh Rahul (15) were the other contributors for Kings XI Punjab.
After three wickets down for 58 runs, Kings XI Punjab recovered to 166 for 9 posted in their stipulated 20 overs. David Miller, who was on 10 after 10 overs, started attacking more and scored 32 in 27 balls with the help of two sixes and two successive fours. David hit Harshal Patel over extra cover for six and later soared Sandeep Lamichhane's delivery over long on for his second six.
Miller then dispatched Harshal Patel for two successive four in the 13th innings of the innings on the third and fourth balls. Miller was lucky to survive the next ball from Patel who bowled at the middle stump and Miller punched hard but the bowler was slow in his follow through and was dropped.
However, Delhi Capitals got another success when they dismissed Sarfaraz Khan at the total of 120 for 4 in 13.5 overs. Khns batted well and faced 29 deliveries for 39. He hit six fours before he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Rishab Patel of the bowling of Sandeep Lamichhane.
Khan and Miller were associated for a valuable 62 runs partnership for the fourth wicket. They carried the total to 120 for 4 in 13.5 overs from 58 for 3 in 7.1 overs.
Mandeep Singh joined Miller. With the addition of 17 runs, Miller also departed. He was caught by wicketkeeper Pant of the bowling of Chris Morris. Miller played a lively innings of 43 which he made from 29 deliveries. His knock was studded with four well-executed boundaries and two effortless sixes.
Kings XI Punjab lost Viljoen (1), captain Ravichandran Ashwin (3), and M Ashwin (1) and Mohammed Shami (0).
Mandeep Singh (29, 21b, 2x4s) and Mujeeb Ur Reham (0) remained not out.
Chris Moris (3 for 30), Kagiso Rabada (2 for 32), Sandeep Lamichhane (2 for 27) restricted Kings XI Punjab to 166 for 9 in 20 overs
Midway through Kings XI Punjab were 86 for 3. Kings XI Punjab lost openers Lokesh Rahul (15), Sam Curran (20) and Mayank Agarwal (6).
Injured Chris Gayle and Andrew Tye were not included in the playing XI in the Kings XI Punjab team while Mujeeb Ur-Rahman and Sam Curran returned into the team for Mohali match.
