Out of total 255 districts of the country, the border district of Fazilka has got 10th ranking, for making sincere efforts to address the issues of declining water table as well as the quality of water and people's participation in this campaign.Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Jal Shakti Ministry, GoI has issued district-wise detailed ranking under 'Jal Shakti Abhiyan' on its official website.

 Deputy Commissioner Mr. Manpreet Singh Chhatwal said that Fazilka has given 10th national ranking under Jal Shakti Abhiyan, which was launched in 255 water stressed districts of the country. "This ranking will further strengthen our initiatives to protect the environment and underground water", he added.

He said that to encourage the states and districts to focus on Jal Shakti Abhiyan, the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation has launched this ranking, which was based on the progress achieved during the campaign. The ranking would assess the performance of districts against five interventions areas like; water conservation and rainwater harvesting, revival and renovation of traditional and other water bodies, construction of watersheds and tranches, construction of recharge bore well system and intensive forestation besides special interventions areas and people's participation.

Mr. Chhatwal said that districts have given ranking in three categories, which is based on 60 percent scores for the implementation of government schemes in this regard and 20-20 percent scores for special interventions areas and people's participation. He said that in these categories, Fazilka clinched 10.95 scores, while the first positioned Varanasi district of Uttar Pradesh got 17.65 scores and Punjab's district Sangrur got 13th position with 10.19 scores.

He expressed hope that to achieve the cent percentage target and another height in this direction, the district administration will work with full dedication. He exhorted people of the district for their fulsome cooperation to save the earth and environment
