He also pointed out that huge seizures of drugs had been made by the Election Commission during code of conduct in the State and also by the Customs authorities from trucks carrying goods into Punjab. “These seizures indicate that smuggling of drugs from Pakistan has increased sharply. Laxity on the part of the Congress government and shelter being given to the drug mafia is squarely responsible for this”, he added.

Some people complained to the MP about inflated bills being received by them. They said the limited free power facility available to the poor during SAD-BJP tenure had been dispensed with and severely inflated bills were being received with retrospective effect. Mr Badal said he would take up this case and assured all complainants that the SAD would prevail upon the Congress government to take back the inflated bills. People also complained that development work had been stopped and even small village level works were not being carried out.

Sukhbir said that he would redress people’s problems and that water supply and sewerage work was on his priority list. He said he would also make efforts to ensure that all economically weaker sections were given Pucca houses as per the central scheme besides ensuring irrigation water reached tail ends of canals.

He also assured the people that he would not let the Congress government discriminate against the constituency. He said all eligible blue card beneficiaries whose names had been deleted should approach him and he would ensure that they get due benefits under the ‘Atta-daal’ scheme. He also asked the people to remain vigilant and report any misuse or misappropriation of funds by Congressmen under the MNREGA scheme.
