RANA SODHI INAUGURATES STATE OF THE ART HOSTEL COMPLEX FOR BUDDING PLAYERS

The Sports Minister, Punjab, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi here today inaugurated a state of the art Hostel Complex adjacent to the Punjab Institute of Sports (PIS). On the eve of the inauguration, the minister said that this hostel complex housing Block A and Block B (One each for Boys and Girls) has come up at a cost of Rs. 8.27 crore in 1.50 crore and is equipped with 88 well furnished rooms. 

Divulging more, the minister further said that the hostel complex has the capacity to house 425 players and has six floors. He also added that the hostel also boasts of the State of the art rooms, Top quality mess, Recreation room, and Study room. 

Disclosing more, Rana Sodhi said that the players belonging to the wings of 11 Sports namely Hockey, Athletics, Swimming, Judo, Boxing, Table Tennis, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Gymnastics, Volleyball, and Basketball have been housed here. He further said elaborated that the complex is under the purview of the Punjab Institute of Sports (PIS) and for the purpose of better coordination the office of the Director PIS Air Commodore (Retd.) R. S. Sodhi, VSM has also been shifted here. 

The minister also visited the hostel premises and inspected the infrastructure. He also assured that in future, AC   hostels would come up. 

On the occasion, the Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu and Rana Sodhi termed Mohali as the emerging sports destination of Punjab which would have a lion's share in producing World Champions from the State. The Health Minister also thanked the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and Sports Minister Rana Sodhi for the hostel complex besides earlier bestowing the gift of a World Class Shooting range at Mohali. He also expressed strong hope that the day is not far off when Punjab would be numero uno in terms of producing champions as well as top notch sporting facilities. 

Among other dignitaries present on the occasion included the Director Sports, Punjab Mr. Rahul Gupta, Director Administration of PIS Air Commodore (Retd.) R. S. Sodhi VSM, Political Secretary to the Health Minister Mr. Harkesh Chand Sharma Machhli Kalan, and XEN Sports Department Mr. Sanjay Mahajan.
