Farmers, blaming all the six legislators of Sriganganagar district for failing in arranging proper water supply in Gang Canal, burnt their effigies in Sadhuwali village near the inter-state border.
Kisan Sangharsh Samiti district president Amar Singh Bishnoi, former chairman of Gang Canal Project, Gurbalpal Singh Sandhu and others gathered in large numbers on the link channel canal bridge in village Sadhuwali on Sriganganagar-Abohar road. They shouted slogans against the MLAs of the district and said that for the past 15 days, full water is not available in the Gang canal. None of the legislators make any effort to pressurize the state government to resolve the issue.
(SUBHEAD)They said that the Ferozepur Feeder Canal, which supplies water to the Gang Canal, should be reconstructed as this was in a very dilapidated condition. He said crops are drying due to lack of water as average day temperature was above 38 degrees centigrade.
Meantime farmers led by Gramin Kisan Mazdoor Samiti convenor Ranjit Singh Raju continued the dharna in Sriganganagar.
