250-KG EXPIRED FOOD ITEMS SEIZED IN SRIGANGANAGAR

A team of the Health Department in Sriganganagar raided a private departmental store in Agrasen Nagar and found about 2.5 quintals of food items valued at Rs 1.5 lakh expired. The officials said that a complaint was received that expired food items are being sold at a departmental store on the allurement of discount, on which the departmental team got the verification done.

It was confirmed that not only expired food items but also food items in open and bad condition are being sold at this shop. Due to this, the departmental team raided and recovered expired food items, spoiled and open food items. The team seized the same and took action to destroy it.

(SUBHEAD)The officials said that expired Chips, Chocolate, Biscuit, Crunchy Milk preparations, Besan Burfi, Maggi, Noodles, Cake, Masala, Cornflakes, Bournvita, Butter, Soybean Oil, Honey, Bottled Drinking Water, Pickle, Soy Sauce, Pumpkin, Juice, Jam, dark chocolate and other food items were seized. Some items carried expired ingredients which were very harmful for health. Further action was being taken as per the law.

Another team seized about 1000-kg tobacco from three shops in Sriganganagar, about 40-km from Abohar. Deputy Chief Medical Health officer Dr Karan Arya said that tobacco was being sold in polythene packs violating the prohibitory orders. The owners of the shops are being questioned; further action is on the cards. EOM
