Colonel Bishan Singh Rathore, popularly known as ‘Nathula Tiger’ of the Indian Army, passed away at Jaipur on Sunday.
He was 84 years old and had been ill for some days for which he was undergoing treatment at a private hospital. He breathed his last on Sunday morning.
he funeral procession will leave from Col Rathore residence D-2, Shaitan Vihar, Vidyadhar Nagar, Sector-1 at 10 am on Monday, 12 June to reach Moksha Dham on Sikar Road.
He is survived by two sons, daughter-in-law and two grandsons. His wife Mrs. Jatan Kanwar passed away last year.
Col Bishan Singh was born on 10 November 1938 in Bhagwanpura village of Nawan tehsil of Nagaur district. He joined the army in 1961 after graduating from Birla Science College, Pilani. He commanded an Army unit in Nathula during the Sino-Indian war of 1967, wherein he was also injur
ed by a bullet in his hand during the war. However due to the indomitable courage of Col Bishan Singh Rathore and his unit, the Chinese Army had to return and that is how he came to be known as 'Nathula Tiger'. He was awarded the Sena Medal for gallantry in the war.
