VIGILANCE NABS PATIALA ASI ACCEPTING BRIBE OF RS. 8500

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, on Friday nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Balraj Singh, posted in Civil Lines police station, Patiala for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 8,500.

Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the above said police official has been arrested on the complaint of Vivek Kumar, resident of Patiala city.

(SUBHEAD)Giving details he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the above said police official has demanded Rs 20,000 as a bribe in two instalments to implement enquiry report conducted by senior officer and registration of cross case against the other party. The complainant has alleged that the accused police personnel had already taken Rs 1,500 and demanding the remaining money of Rs 8,500.

The spokesperson informed that a VB team from Patiala range has laid a trap and the accused police official has been arrested on the spot while taking a bribe of Rs 8,500 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

In this regard a case under prevention of corruption act has been registered against the accused ASI at VB police station Patiala range. Further investigation in this case was under progress.
