The Animal Welfare Board of India has once drawn the attention of the Punjab Govt to the letter sent in November last year to nominate its representatives to carry out inspection of animal slaughter houses across the state.

Dr Sandeep Kumar Jain, a member of the board, has written a letter to the Chief Secretary and other senior officers demanding that for the assistance of the board's committee for inspection of slaughterhouses in the state, representatives from department of Animal Husbandry, Local Bodies, Food Safety, Mandi Board should be nominated to cooperate with the Committee nominated by the Animal Welfare Board of India to stop atrocities on animals in slaughterhouses.

The national committee for inspection comprises Sudhir Kumar Srivastava BSF IG (retd), Dr Sandeep Kumar Jain from Punjab, Dr Krishan Mittal from Mysore, Kamlesh Shah from Maharashtra and JP Saxena from Uttar Pradesh.

These members have been appointed on the basis of knowledge and experience of the subject and dedication and compassion towards animals. The committee may also inspect shops selling meat besides animal slaughterhouses to prevent them from playing with the health of the people.
