VIGILANCE NABS ASI RED HANDED ACCEPTING BRIBE RS 2K, BOOKS ANOTHER ASI DEMANDING ILLEGAL GRATIFICATION

Aiming to eradicate corruption in the state, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau during its ongoing campaign on Wednesday arrested Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Lakhwinder Singh posted at city police station Kapurthala taking a bribe of Rs 2000. Besides this, the Bureau has registered a corruption case against ASI Som Nath posted at city police station Kharar, SAS Nagar for demanding a bribe Rs 60,000.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of the State Vigilance Bureau (VB) said the accused ASI was arrested on the complaint of Gaurav resident of Aman Nagar, Kapurthala. He further informed that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that he has a minor dispute with his partner at shop and the concerned ASI was demanding money from him to help him in this police complaint case.

(SUBHEAD)After verification of the facts in the complaint and the material evidence, a VB team from Jalandhar Range laid a trap and the above mentioned ASI was arrested while taking a bribe of Rs 2,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused police official at VB police station Jalandhar and further investigation is under progress.

The spokesperson further added that in another case the VB has registered a corruption case against ASI Som Nath for demanding a bribe Rs 60,000. He informed that in this regard the VB has registered a case FIR no: 14 dated 13.9.22 under section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station flying squad-1, Punjab at SAS Nagar against ASI Som Nath on the complaint of Balbir Singh resident of Green Comfort Homes, Kharar, SAS Nagar district.

Giving details he said that complainant Balbir Singh filed a complaint on Anti Corruption Helpline and informed that he had a minor altercation with the above mentioned police official. Subsequently, he confiscated his motorcycle and demanded Rs 60,000 to release this motor bike. During conversation the complainant recorded his call as evidence. During the enquiry the facts in the complaint were found as true and the VB registered a bribery case against the above said accused ASI.
