EX-MP SWAMI KESHWANAND REMEMBERED ON 50TH ANNIVERSARY

Immortal education saint and Ex-MP Swami Keshwanand was remembered on his 50th death anniversary.

Prof. Jawahar Lal Aggarwal, writer of two books about the life of Swami ji, said the saint of desert was a torch bearer to end illiteracy besides support for the freedom movement.

Chief guest MLA Sandeep Jakhar said that Swamiji made us lucky by considering Abohar as his place of work. All the sections should cooperate as much as possible in the preparations for celebrating the centenary of the Sahitya Sadan that was established by him in 1924. We should try tocarry forward the light of literacy and women's education that Swami ji ignited by establishing 286 schools in Punjab and Rajasthan besides Gramotthan Vidyapeeth in Sangria.(SUBHEAD)

Amar Lal Grover, a former teacher of Gramotthan Vidyapeeth, said that when Swamiji died on the footpath of Delhi 50 years ago, he had less than Rs 100 in his pocket. Swamiji became a source of inspiration especially for the students and teachers during his lifetime.

Dr. Sandeep Watts, in-charge of Swami Keshwanand Ayurvedic Hospital, said that the famine-stricken child Birma wandered from Rajasthan to Abohar. He was adopted by a family inJhumianwali and found shelter in Arya Orphanage Ferozepur and got education also at Sadhu Ashram Fazilka. This boy later became popular as Swami Keshwanand.

Expressing gratitude for the audience, Raj Sadosh, president of Lekhak Parishad, said that with the inspiration of Swami ji, the family of Raja Ram Jakhar took concrete steps towards upliftment of Dalits and eradication of evils. The Bhadoo families of Waryamkhera gave full support to Swamiji.

Sadan president Suryakant Rinwa welcomed the delegates from various institutions. Under the direction of Principal Anurag Nagpal, teachers and students of Swami Keshwanand Sr Sec School were also present in large numbers.
