MLA Sandeep Jakhar and Mayor Vimal Thatai along with other activists met Civil Hospital in-charge Dr. Suresh Kamboj and opposed closure of the blood bank. The MLA said that the oxygen plant which he had inaugurated two years ago, has been closed for 10 months due to technical snag, arrangements should be made to get it started.
Jakhar later took up several issues with Health Minister Chetan Singh Jouramajra on phone, the minister assured that the work of the blood bank would be resumed in 2-3 days.
The MLA said that since last week, the blood bank was a necessity for needy people of Abohar and Balluana assembly constituencies. There were not enough medicines available in the hospital. About 5 lakh people from 150 villages of Abohar and Balluana come to this hospital for treatment and blood. After the transfer of BTO Dr. Sonima from here to Fazilka, the department did not make any alternative arrangements.(SUBHEAD)
Abohar has more road accidents than other areas and blood donation for the victims is arranged in the civil hospital of Abohar with the help of voluntary organizations. Pregnant women in the maternal and child ward of the hospital were forced to go to Fazilka if they needed blood. Therefore, the work of the blood bank should be restored with immediate effect.
In the hospital with capacity of 100 beds, the posts of Dermatologist, Eye Specialist, ENT Specialist and Medical Specialist are lying vacant for a long time, due to which the patients have to suffer a lot. These experts should also be appointed soon.
