Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal visited villages located near Rajasthan border which include Sherewala, Pattisadiq, and Dhinganwali and reviewed the ongoing rainwater drainage work here. He interacted with hundreds of people to acquaint himself with the ground realities about the effect of recent rains.

The DC said that due to the sudden heavy rain, there has been a problem of waterlogging in some places, although rain these days was considered beneficial for the crops in the border areas.(SUBHEAD)

He said that the canal department has been instructed to plug the breaches that had recently developed due to rain in some of the canals at the earliest possible. Local officials of the Revenue and Rural Development Department were also present. The villagers strongly raised the issue of illegal occupation of the ponds by vested interests at some places, the capacity of the ponds to store water has decreased due to which water inundates the low-lying areas. Such encroachments have not been removed despite categorical directions of the High Court in the past few years, villagers said.

The DC ordered the officials on the spot to remove the illegal encroachments from the ponds as per the demand of the people of the villages and also instructed those ponds should be cleaned so that the rainwater can be stored there. He told the officials to set up rainwater conservation projects in the villages. He also directed the officials to ensure access to clean drinking water.
