With an aim to encourage the youth to refrain from drugs and to make them self reliant, a special skill development programme was launched by the District Bureau of Employment Generation, Skill Development and Training under Punjab Skill Development Mission which enabled thirty youths to earn their livelihood who were once drug addicts.
While divulging details, DC Amrit Singh said that during the three months programme, the aspirants were given training in plumbing and were further either placed under some employment or were helped to be established as self-employee.
“These aspirants who were once the drug addicts had expressed their desire to learn the skills which would enable them to earn their livelihood. A special skill course was started in which thirty such youths who had quit the drugs, were selected and were given the training”, said DC Singh.(SUBHEAD)
On this occasion, DC Amrit Singh also distributed the tool kits to the youth who were part of this programme. It is pertinent to mention here that this was first of its kind initiative in Punjab. “It is good to see that these youngsters are choosing the right path of life”, said DC Singh.
On this occasion, Abhishek Sharma, Harmesh Kumar District Employment Generation Skill Development and Training Officer, Gurjant Singh Placement officer, Sarabjit Singh Mission Manager, Navdeep Aseeja Training and Placement Manager, Manjit Kaur Manager PSDM and Anuj Kakkar Skill centre in-charge were present.
