Shopkeepers of Bansal Plaza located on VIP Road held a press conference again today and complained that the Municipal Corporation was committing atrocities. They said that Girish Verma, the executive officer of the Municipal Corporation, says that he will not return the confiscated goods, no matter how many press conferences are held or calls are made by anyone.

Shopkeeper Ajay Lamba said that he was being threatened. Others who addressed the media included Meenakshi Lamba, Rajeev Choudhary, Sanjeev Bassi, Sakir Hussain and Paras. Their complaint is that the plaza owner is pressurizing a particular shop owner to sell it at a cheaper price.

Lamba said that 18% GST was taken per shop in cash without givning any receipt despite repeated reminders. The shops were sold with false commitments amd without compliance of complete documentation. No copy of fire NOC renewal was provided, while the sewerage and construction quality is poor.(SUBHEAD)

The shopkeepers had alleged in the previous press conference a few days ago that the corporation employees were harassing them in various ways at the behest of Satish Bansal, owner of Bansal Plaza. The shopkeepers have also lodged a police complaint against Mr Bansal on charges of irregularities and conspiracy.

Shopkeepers complained that there are encroachments at various places in Zirakpur and Baltana, but only the shopkeepers of Bansal Plaza were being targeted. They also accused the MC employees of extorting ‘hafta’ from street vendors and small shopkeepers. They said that they would also meet the local MLA to help in this matter.
