DANCERS FROM BARMER SHOWCASE THE UNIQUE CHARM OF RAJASTHANI CULTURE

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

A grand Rajasthani cultural evening, organized under the aegis of Rashtriya Kala Mandir, Sriganganagar, introduced the city’s art enthusiasts to the vibrant folk traditions of the desert land. Renowned dancers from Barmer, Prem Manda and Sonu Rajasthani, immersed the auditorium in the spirit of Rajasthan by performing a series of exceptional and rare dance styles over the course of two hours.

As soon as the program began and the two artists stepped onto the stage, they infused the entire atmosphere with energy. They performed the Bhavai dance while balancing a gas cylinder and seven earthen pots on their heads—a sight that left the audience amazed. Performances such as the Matki dance, the Agni dance amidst blazing flames, and the challenging Ghutna Chakri captivated everyone. These performances were set to Rajasthani folk songs and devotional hymns. The final performance, based on the folk song Chirmi, received the highest acclaim; during this act, not only the artists but also a large number of audience members rose from their seats to dance along. Many art lovers, including Rashtriya Kala Mandir President Virendra Baid, joined the artists on stage to dance. The entire auditorium resonated with applause and cheers.

The chief guest, Kamal Kant Kochar—President of the Mahavir International organization—highly praised the artists for their hard work, balance, and efforts to keep Rajasthani culture alive. Virendra Baid announced that on October 11—the death anniversary of the ‘Ghazal Samrat’ and Padma Vibhushan awardee, the late Jagjit Singh—Rashtriya Kala Mandir would organize a grand musical event as a musical tribute (Swaranjali) to him. The program was conducted by theatre artist Nilaykant Chhabra and poetess Ritu Singh.
