An environmental awareness program was organized at Onkar Smart School, Janta Nagar, Kharar by the Women and Child Welfare Society, Sector 45D, Chandigarh. The program was led by the society’s Founder and President Pooja Bakshi.

During the event, school children were educated about environmental protection, proper use of plastic waste, and the importance of recycling. Students were informed that plastic bottles, old tyres, and other unused items can be recycled and converted into useful products, which helps reduce waste and protect the environment.

(SUBHEAD)The children were also made aware of proper waste management and disposal methods. They were advised to segregate waste into different categories—wet waste, dry waste, and plastic waste. Wet waste can be converted into organic compost, while dry and plastic waste can be reused or sent for recycling, which helps reduce pollution.

Students were also given an important message about water management and conservation. They were told that water is a precious natural resource and should not be wasted. Practices such as rainwater harvesting, limited water usage, and maintaining the cleanliness of water sources are essential responsibilities of every citizen.

On this occasion, Pooja Bakshi, Founder and President of the society, said, “Protecting the environment is our collective responsibility. If the environment is safe, human life will also remain safe. ‘If there is environment, there is life.’”

Ward No. 6 Mata Gujri Gurudwara, Kharar Councillor Rajinder Singh Nambardar also addressed the students and appreciated the efforts made by the organization. He said that creating environmental awareness among children is the need of the hour.

School Principal Onkar Kaur thanked Pooja Bakshi for sharing her valuable time with the students and said that such programs motivate children to become responsible citizens towards the environment.
The program was also attended by Advisor Om Prakash Mehra, environmental enthusiast Naresh Kohli, member Rakesh Kumar Gupta, and member Aarti Budhiraja. All of them appreciated the awareness and enthusiasm shown by the students.

During the event, the organization distributed fruits and biscuits among the children. The chief guest Rajinder Singh Nambardar was honored with a bouquet and siropa, while the school principal was also felicitated with a chunni and a bouquet by the society’s team.
